Badsfontein is a historic, 6th generation Merino sheep farm situated just 20 minutes outside the town of Murraysburg.

A beautiful garden sheltered amongst old tall trees creates serenityand peacefulness. At Badsfontein, with its natural splendor, you feelone with the surroundings.

Take a stroll through our quaint little town, visit buildings spanning the last 150 years including the church with its unique organ. In town the focus is on tourism development particularly for previously disadvantaged people. Head out on one of the many 4x4 routes or ditch the vehicle and hike or mountain bike the endless trails around the Sneeuberg Mountains and Buffels River.

While you`re at it, enjoy the fine Bushman rock paintings. Explore the geology and maybe find a fossil (no, not your spouse) from the Permian period. There are over 100 species of birds in the area, so don`t forget your binoculars and if you are lucky you may see the hordes of flamingos that visit us each year. Hunting is offered in season. Meat processing and goose plucking are some of the farm activities to observe.

Once your routes have been put together and the bookings are done, you may enjoy this Treasure of the Karoo thru self driving. This area will bring back sincere memories of visits to family farms and help you make fresh ones by visiting a reserve or learn about the unique vegatation or forgotten history of our area.

Well, your choice is varied. You could rough it and camp out, enjoy a farm stay. try a bed and breakfast in the area or self cater. If you prefer a bit more comfort then a stay at a 3 fstar guesthouse could be just what you are looking for.

We have two bedrooms in the main house, which are individually styled,with attention to detail and comfort, high quality towels and linen. A cottage with a double room, en-suite bathroom with shower, loungewhich includes a kitchenette, air-conditioning and DSTV, situated nextto the main house. Sitting on the patio with a cup of coffee in theearly morning while listening to the birds and enjoying the view ofthe garden, is a true luxury and a treasure!

Late afternoon, as the sun sets behind the Karoo koppies, you canenjoy sundowners in the veldt and listen to a lamb calling for shelterduring the night. The glittering stars above will show the way home toa candlelight dinner which includes Karoo lamb, good wine and homemadedessert.
