Samara Private Game Reserve
The largest private game reserve in the Eastern Cape, award-winning Samara is a pioneering conservation journey to regenerate the Great Karoo through rewilding and responsible
tourism. Consisting of 11 former livestock farms assembled since 1997, Samara encompasses 67,000 acres (27,000 hectares) of born-again wilderness in a singularly beautiful
malaria-free setting. Diverse wildlife roams the reserve, from cheetah, lion and large herds of antelope to black rhino, elephant and the unusual aardvark.
Key to Samara’s vision is the concept of co-creation, where 26 guests at a time are invited to contribute to safeguarding the landscape in perpetuity.
Two intimate 5-star owner-run lodges with a true sense of place offer a quintessentially warm Karoo welcome. Karoo Lodge is a traditional restored homestead sleeping 18. The Manor offers a contemporary take on Karoo style in a villa sleeping 8.
Guests on safari at Samara will bask in the exclusivity of being one of few people in a vast wilderness, with myriad activities on offer to explore, entertain and educate. These include game drives, bush walks, tracking sessions, conservation activities, fly camping, kids’ programmes, a star bed and wilderness picnics. Children of all ages are welcome.
