Tucked away behind the Verandah Coffee Shop, where ladies might lunch on the stoep on a hot summer’s day, or inside when the Karoo chills set in, this motor museum is a respite in the wilderness for anyone who has any interest whatsoever in the history of the motor car.

First off there are impeccably restored – and still being restored – cars with a varying degree of scarcity. There’s a 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 which is still in perfect running order and a being restored from scrap 1955 Willy’s Overland.

But the rarest is the Ford Model C, which is one of only two of these vehicles in the country. Built during the 1930s, this car is being lovingly restored by museum owners Michele and Jurie Prinsloo to its original condition – including the restoration of its floor and ceiling wood.

Then there’s the original 1967 Ford Corsair GT, with its original chrome trimmings and, coming soon, especially for the sports enthusiast, a Ford GT40 which costs R1.2 million to build.

Every nook and cranny of this interesting museum is crammed full of motoring memorabilia, from books to model cars and an old diagnostic machine that preceded today’s computerised testers.
