Rietbron ACVV Hall

Rietbron ACVV Hall

Description

The Afrikaanse Christelike Vroue Vereeniging hall – ACVV – (Afrikaans Christian Women’s Association) hall was built in 1925 with money the women raised through egg sales. It was the only hall in Rietbron for many years and played an important role in the town. When a new church hall was built in 1953, it was decided to use the ACVV hall as a museum.

The job of restoring the hall and turning it into a museum started in 1978, and through the initiative and dedication of Mrs Joey van Zyl, the museum was finally official opened on 13 November 1982. It was filled with a collection donated by the local community and includes a variety of antique farming equipment stored in a shed next to the museum. In 2008, the Women’s Club took over the management.

The building is being converted back into a community hall for events and the museum items are being removed for storage elsewhere.
