Tarkastad War Memorial

Description
The Tarkastad War Memorial was erected after the first World War with the names of the men from the district who lost their lives in the war and a plaque with the following:
1914 – 1918
THEY WHOM THIS MEMORIAL
COMMEMORATES WERE NUMBERED
AMONG THOSE WHO AT THE CALL
OF KING AND COUNTRY LEFT ALL
THAT WAS DEAR TO THEM, ENDURED
HARDNESS, FACED DANGERS AND
FINALLY PASSED OUT OF THE
SIGHT OF MEN BY THE PATH OF
DUTY AND SELF SACRIFICE, GIVING
UP THEIR LIVES THAT OTHERS
MIGHT LIVE IN FREEDOM.
LET THOSE WHO COME AFTER SEE TO IT
THAT THEIR NAMES BE NOT FORGOTTEN.
After World War II the names of the men who died in that war were also added to the memorial.
