Glen Thorn Church

Description

Built in 1840, of plastered sandstone, this Presbyterian church is the oldest in the Eastern Cape to be still in use. The farm Glen Thorn, in the Mancazana Valley, was granted to John Pringle (brother of Thomas Pringle, an author and the leader of the Scottish Party) in 1824, and it was he who commissioned the building of this church.

Glen Thorn was granted in 1824 to John Pringle, a brother of Thomas Pringle, the author and leader of the Scottish Party. It was John Pringle who built this stone church in 1840. The first minister was the Rev. John Forbes Cumming.
