Take a step back in time to a natural world without the madding crowd and explore the 25,000-acre private game reserve up close.

With no dangerous cats, the reserve is a sanctuary to many herds of animals, including springbok, gemsbok, Cape mountain zebra, Cape buffalo, red hartebeest, eland, and kudu. Other non-herd creatures such as klipspringer, giant tortoises, porcupines, bat-eared foxes, black-backed jackal and ostriches can also be commonly sighted. An abundance of birds, eagles, butterflies and dragonflies adds to the natural beauty of the reserve wherever one looks.

Experience the magic of the African bush with drives available morning, evening and night, to ensure you experience the best sunsets and see the biggest array of wildlife at its most active. Get even closer to the action and explore the landscape yourself, or go on one of their guided bush walks. Your guide will educate you on the rich Karoo history and vegetation, whilst pointing out the homes to many of the animals, as well as uncovering their tracks and don’t forget the dung!

Their wilderness chalets (at the Lapa) are rustically clad with local stone, seamlessly blending with the natural surrounds.  The privately located sleeping chalets are positioned away from one another with magnificent, uninterrupted views of the game reserve. Be prepared for wild animals roaming in the vicinity; it’s not unusual to step out of your room in the morning and see the footsteps of a herd of giant Eland as they have passed like ghosts in the night.

Pepper Tree Cottage is named after the many pink pepper trees growing on the river banks of the reserve, under one of which this cottage sits. Pepper Tree Cottage is perfect for families looking for extra outdoor space. The rustic cottage features garden with patio seating and large outside fire perfect for those starlit nights around the campfire.
