Buffelshoek Dirosie Lodge

Buffelshoek Dirosie Lodge

Description

Set against the dramatic mountain backdrop of the Karoo, Buffelshoek Dirosie Lodge offers a peaceful farm-style escape just outside Cradock. Located approximately 20 km from town, this hidden gem combines secluded tranquillity with easy access to the historic heart of the Karoo.

Surrounded by rugged landscapes reminiscent of the nearby Mountain Zebra National Park, the lodge is home to a variety of wildlife including giraffe, kudu and sable, offering guests an authentic Karoo bush experience right on their doorstep.

Accommodation ranges from cosy lodge rooms in the original farmhouse to spacious self-catering family units and private chalets, each thoughtfully designed to blend comfort with the natural surroundings. Whether relaxing next to a crackling fireplace, enjoying a traditional braai under the stars, or soaking in panoramic mountain views, every stay invites you to slow down and reconnect with nature. Rates are room dependent and fully self-catering. Contact us to discuss what you’re looking for and how we can accommodate. For groups of 10 or more, meals and other options can be discussed so be sure to enquire when making your booking.

Rich in both history and atmosphere, Buffelshoek is also the final resting place of renowned South African author Olive Schreiner, whose grave sits high on the mountain overlooking the vast plains—a testament to the timeless beauty of this landscape.

Weddings and functions at Buffelshoek
There is a church and a large hall for weddings or other functions. You can have your dream wedding here at Buffelshoek Dirosie Lodge and invite your wedding guests to stay at one of 11 rooms. The church is spacious and you can have a big wedding here. The hall has a large kitchen at the back to handle all your catering needs.  There is an entertainment area where you and your guest can sit around a bonfire and stare at the stars.

These facilities are ideal for conferences. The hall can accommodate large groups of conference goers and we can sleep 40 to 60 guests with more accommodation to follow.

The “Karoo Klipkraal”
Together with the farm this unique kraal was built in the late 1800s. The stonewall forms the sides of the new “Karoo Klipkraal” lapa. The Karoo agave aloe “garingbome” was used to further shield you against the elements and creating a cozy atmosphere. This klipkraal invites you into a pure Karoo night experience. Enjoy a bond fire and chat with loved ones and friends until late, with the stars shining bright into the night.

The farm, Buffelshoek is home to a variety of game like giraffes, kudu, springbuck, bronze springbuck, bontebuck, sables, njalas, lamas, alpaca and more. Sit in one of the hides and see the animals at the waterhole. Guests on the farm can also go on game drives to experience the game up close and personal.
