Located 15km North-East of Pearston, the Buffelshoek pass is 3.9km long, and has an altitude variance of 330m.  The pass lies on the R337, and links Pearston and Cradock. This rugged and beautiful pass offers sublime scenery towards the south over well wooded valleys and expansive plains packed with game.

​The R337 is a gravel (dirt) road, and whilst the scenery is fantastic, the road maintenance is erratic and the road condition is very unpredictable, as it may vary after rains. It is advisable to attempt this pass only with an off-road vehicle with suitable clearance, especially after heavy rain or snow conditions.
