Since 1993 Transkaroo Adventures have offered tourists and youth groups a unique opportunity to experience the most breathtaking and surprising scenes in the Upper Karoo.

Transkaroo is situated about 750 km from Johannesburg and Cape Town – on the N10 route between Middelburg Eastern Cape and Hanover in the Northern Cape on the N10 route. It is placed under the Noupoort area.

Farm-style accommodation is offered in restored farmhouses that are all suited for self-catering farm holidays or overnight stays. The two farm houses (fully equipped) and overnight huts (for hikers, 4 x 4 visitors, etc) can accommodate up to 13 guests per facility. Safe, undercover parking is available at Rietpoort and Wilgefontein (in big barns).

The Cottage

The Cottage is located 3km (dirt road) from the N10 and is on the farm where the reception is. It can accommodate up to 4 guests.

2 rooms – double bed and 2 single beds. Bedding included.
Each room has its own bathroom and towels.
Small kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and cutlery for four.
Braai facilities. We provide wood, but will recommend that you bring charcoal and firelighters.
Swimming pool, tennis court and table tennis.
No cell phone reception – wifi available.
Farm activities: Horse riding. Sheering: March and September. Lambing season: March/April and August/September. Please enquire specific dates.

Rietpoort Holiday Farm House

This farmhouse is 6km from the reception. Can accommodate up to 13 guests.

5 bedrooms including bedding and towels. Camping cot can be arranged.
3 bathrooms.
Living room and kitchen.
Braai facilities. We provide wood, but will recommend that you bring charcoal and firelighters.
Safe parking in shed.
No cell phone reception.
Activities: Mountain climbing, hiking, mountain bike, trail running, swimming and horse riding.

Wilgefontein

This farmhouse is 10km from reception and recommended for hikers and hunters. Can accommodate up to 12 guests.
Wilgerfontein is reached via a valley road and isn’t accessible to sedan vehicles.

4 bedrooms including bedding and towels. Camping cot can be arranged.
2 bathrooms.
Living area and kitchen.
Braai facilities. We provide wood, but will recommend that you bring charcoal and firelighters.
Safe parking in shed.
No cell phone reception.
No electricity – “donkey” for hot water, gas stove and fridge and lanterns and candles.
Activities: Mountain climbing, hiking, mountain bike, trail running, swimming and shooting range.

Hiking

The Transkaroo Adventures 3 day hiking trail is a circular route where hikers can walk up to 42 km through mountains, valleys and plateaus. The trail is regularly used by hiking clubs from all around South Africa. Hikers can do one of the days separate by special arrangement.

As you enjoy your walk, you will find typical Karoo veld so enjoyed by nature lovers. A wide variety of bird life, mammals and flora can be seen. On day one, you will see a breeding pair of African Black Eagles. Unique rock formations are also seen all around.

Most popular times to hike : March, April , May, September and October. For the winter hiker – June and July.

Slack-packing option is available.

There is currently a windfarm and solar plant being constructed on the farm which can be seen on the hiking trail. The construction is spectacular and mind-blowing to see up close.

Route maps and other information are made available to every visitor. Routes are clearly marked, enabling the hikers to walk or ride or drive to all points on the map by themselves.
