Nestled at the base of an amphitheatre of mountains within the Camdeboo Conservancy and Great Karoo, lies the historic 1820 Onbedacht farmstead and cottage. The nearest town of Graaff- Reinet, the 4th oldest town in South Africa, is about 55km away.

This picturesque working farm comprises of 2500 hectres of unspoilt nature and is home to our own free ranging herd of red Angus cattle.  We also have a small flock of both Dorper and Persian sheep, which makes the lamb true Karoo lamb.  None of our animals (cattle or sheep) receive growth hormones nor do we administer routine antibiotics. Game is plentiful with sightings of Kudu and Eland.

The isolation and tranquillity of the area make it a sought-after place for people looking for rest and relaxation. For those wishing to be active, there are hiking trails, mountain biking, bird watching, unique photographic opportunities and an ideal place as a retreat. Due to the nature of our farming operations, there are no restrictions as to where guests can explore.

THE COTTAGE

The cottage comprises of a bedroom with a queen bed and percale linen, an en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet, a lounge with open plan kitchenette and a fireplace making cold winter nights cosy and comfortable. The kitchenette itself is fully equipped with a microwave and gas hob. Braai facilities on the veranda make for enjoying memorable nights under the heavy star-laden skies with wood being provided. On hot summer days, a dip in the reservoir is the perfect way of cooling down. The cottage doesn’t have TV and wi-fi and therefore is ideal for couples who want to get away from it all to a place of tranquillity, peace and simple enjoyment. Only Vodacom reception is available.

The cottage is rented out on a self-catering basis. Special rates apply for stays of 3 nights and longer. Braaipacks and ready-made meals are available for sale upon booking.

These lodgings are located 10km or 20 minutes by car from the main farm house on Paardekraal.

THE FARMSTEAD

The Onbedacht Manor house is an 1820 house which is currently undergoing renovation.
